The Ondo State Police Command has recorded another major success in its fight against kidnapping and violent crime, following the killing of two suspected kidnappers during a gun battle with police operatives in Ilu-Abo, along the Akure–Owo Expressway.
According to the Command, the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, after officers attached to the Federal Highway Patrol Unit in Ilu-Abo responded to a distress call about armed men operating at Olaiya Block Industry, located beside Ilu-Abo High School.
Police said a group of about seven masked gunmen had stormed the block industry and demanded to see the owner before officers arrived at the scene.

On sighting the patrol team, the suspects reportedly opened fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. At the end of the operation, two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralized, while the remaining members of the gang escaped into the surrounding bush, reportedly with gunshot wounds.
Items recovered from the scene include a locally fabricated pistol, live cartridges, four mobile phones, several face masks, and two ATM cards believed to belong to the suspects or their victims.
The bodies of the deceased suspects have been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital in Akure, while the case has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

The Police Command said efforts are already underway to track down the fleeing suspects and appealed to residents, especially healthcare providers, to report anyone seeking treatment for gunshot injuries or displaying suspicious movements.
