Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, have successfully rescued eight persons abducted by suspected kidnappers in different parts of Ondo State, in a major breakthrough against criminal activities in the state.
Among the victims were residents of Ilado Community in Akure North Local Government Area, where armed kidnappers reportedly stormed the community and whisked several people away to an unknown location.
One of the rescued victims, Mr. Fagbonmire Durojaiye, a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and a teacher, had generated widespread concern among residents, colleagues, and church members following his abduction.
Reports indicated that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of ₦30 million for the victims' release. However, the Ondo State Commander of the Amotekun Corps revealed that all eight victims regained their freedom without any ransom payment.
According to the commander, the rescue operation was carried out following credible intelligence that led operatives to the kidnappers' hideout. A fierce gun battle reportedly ensued between the security personnel and the criminals, forcing the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee the scene.
The commander praised the bravery, commitment, and professionalism displayed by Amotekun operatives during the operation, adding that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The rescued victims have since reunited with their families, while security measures have been strengthened in the affected communities to prevent future attacks. Authorities have also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information that will assist ongoing security efforts across the state.
The successful operation has been widely hailed as a significant victory in the fight against kidnapping and other criminal activities in Ondo State.
