Nigeria’s political leaders, traditional rulers and eminent personalities on Monday gathered in Akure, Ondo State, to celebrate the 100th birthday of elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti.
The centenary celebration, held at the residence of the nonagenarian along Omolere Nursery and Primary School, Akure, attracted dignitaries from across the country, with Vice President Kashim Shettima leading a Federal Government delegation on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Describing Pa Fasoranti as a moral compass and a symbol of principled leadership, Shettima said the Afenifere leader belongs to a generation of Nigerians who shaped the nation’s history through sacrifice, courage and service.

According to the Vice President, Pa Fasoranti has consistently stood for justice, defended the vulnerable and remained committed to national unity through different political eras in Nigeria’s history.
He noted that although the elder statesman began his journey as a teacher, his influence today extends far beyond the classroom, describing him as a living guide whose voice continues to inspire leadership and nation-building.
Shettima also praised the centenarian’s contributions to democracy, education and national development, while praying for continued strength and good health for the revered Yoruba leader.

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, in his tribute, described Pa Fasoranti as a towering moral authority, a living institution and a bridge between generations.
Governor Aiyedatiwa said the celebration was not merely about longevity, but about honouring a life defined by discipline, integrity, courage and selfless service to humanity.
According to him, the respect and influence enjoyed by Pa Fasoranti were earned through moral authority rather than political power or material wealth.
The governor urged younger Nigerians to emulate the elder statesman’s values of honesty, humility and unwavering commitment to truth, stressing that lasting greatness is built on integrity.

“Happy 100th birthday to our own living legend, Pa Fasoranti,” the governor declared.
Also speaking at the event, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, described the Afenifere leader as a national icon whose life continues to inspire generations of Nigerians.
Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, said the celebration reflected dignity, resilience, honour and principled leadership.
Mimiko praised Pa Fasoranti’s humility, noting that the elder statesman personally insisted that the event be held within his residence despite his national status.

The event also witnessed the presence of top political leaders, members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers and Afenifere chieftains from across Yorubaland.
Among monarchs present were the Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi represented by Olori Aderonke Ogunwusi, the Ajibade Ogunoye, the Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi and the Victor Kiladejo, alongside several other royal fathers.
Family members, associates, political allies and admirers also joined in celebrating the life and enduring legacy of the respected Yoruba leader whose century-long journey continues to inspire many across Nigeria.
